LOUIS XIV - BUS BLOW UP

After LOUIS XIV had finished with their tour bus, nicknamed The Red Baron, they handed it over to Kill Hannah to use, but the Chicago band didn't manage to get much mileage out of it before it burst into flames. After LOUIS XIV used it for their most recent tour of Europe in August, the bus promptly blew up whilst being used by the next band.

Seems the bus couldn't handle living without LOUIS XIV, Kill Hannah's lead singer Mat Devine wrote that the "entire 2-floor 45ft bus was fully engulfed in flames. Windows began bursting from the heat and their was several large explosions".

Whilst no one was hurt in the blaze, and all their equipment was in another separate trailer which wasn't affected, Devine wrote that "virtually all of the band's possessions were lost: including luggage, clothes, passports, wallets, laptops, shoes, phones, and countless irreplaceable sentimental personal items".

Let's hope when LOUIS XIV are in Australia for V Festival 09 that their bus does not meet the same fate.

We threw 21 questions at him and this is what he came back with.

My name is Kevin
But you can call me slothman
I was put on this earth to get into space.
I make music because I have no other use.
It sounds like an organism.
My main inspirations are Apes, paddocks, sunshine, solitude.
I live in a house
But I'd rather be in a cloud.
When I'm not making noise I like to walk around.
My best friends are alseep.
Friday nights are for sobering up after Friday day.
Five things I know about Australia: It's got Nicole Kidman in it, It's got Hugh Jackman in it, it looks like a rip off of Crocodile Dundee from the shorts, it was directed by Baz Lurman, and there are lots of horses.
It was so funny the time we did a photo shoot with NME and we brought are friend/extra guitarist along and due to being more exciting in front of a camera the photographer thought he was the main guy and we ended up doing most of the shoot with Nick as quite the central figure. The camera man must have thought we were laughing because we were standing on a rock.
I just want you to know that I ate two capsicums on the way home from the shops today.
When I was in school I really wanted to be a genius at complex mathematics but really shit at everything else.
Five things I love about myself: I'm good at music, I'm still not bored of flying, my hands, my feet, my lack of concern for food.
Five things I hate about myself: I'm bad at being good at music, I never remember anyone's name, I never remember anyone's face, I'm bad at holding a conversation, I zone out a lot and offend my friends when I tell them I haven't been listening for the last ten minutes.
In ten years time I'll want to be ten years younger
The best dream I ever had was when i had a lucid dream and it lasted for so long I ran out of things to do.
Five things I'll pack for V Festival: four pairs of underpants and a change of shorts incase the other ones are wet.
I'm pscyhed to play V Festival because festivals rule.

ELBOW - DOING IT FOR THE KIDS

Nationwide Mercury Prize winners Elbow have let loose details on their plans to create an animated film and an accompanying album of childrens music. In a follow-up to their album, Seldom Seen Kid, the band have started making steps towards a project that takes its inspiration from their own kids.

Whilst chin wagging with Billboard, singer Guy Garvey said the band member's own little ones were the main motivation behind the endeavor but he also believes there is not much in the way of good music for youngsters. "We initially thought that it would be great to make music for children because the lads in the band have got kids, and they were saying how little really decent music for children there is. The more we thought about it the more we liked the idea". The frontman continued on saying "We've quite often been up for having songs on childrens animated films, but we thought that it would be great to actually be at the starting point for that process".

According to Garvey, doing something for the anklebiters of the world would allow the Bury band to explore new imaginative possibilities and increase their creative capacity, which they couldn't when producing songs with adults in mind. "I want to do something that really fires kids' imaginations. I think you can go somewhere in writing for children that you can't do with adults. I think adults would just say 'Oh, that's bizarre' and shut their ears. Whereas [when writing for children] you can really go absolutely nuts and kids will follow you and love it".

Elbow want to create something original that caters to the bands taste as well as the kids of the world. "I'm thinking that it's going to be something to do with flying dreams. It's got to be something that not only works for us, but that works for the kids and when it's read to them that they can get into".

After having a mammoth year with their award winning album, Seldom Seen Kid, the band have already started work on this project which they'll use as a backbone for Elbow's official fifth album. No release dates have been planned yet.
