Australia's own V Festival lands as usual in Sydney, the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth in March/April 2009. Over two huge weekends, music fans of all ages and persuasions come together to clap eyes on some of the best live talent including The Killers, Snow Patrol, Kaiser Chiefs, Duffy, Elbow, The Do and more.

Being Green

True to our word of improving our carbon footprint from 2007, here is a taste of some of our 'eco' achievements from V Festival 2008:

  • The volume of emissions neutralised by V festival Australia from the 2008 national tour was 173.913 tonnes of Carbon dioxide

  • 95% of the Sydney generators ran on Biodiesel. Biodiesel was also used in the portable lighting towers that were set up inside the event perimeter for the ingress and egress of Sydney. We even had some solar power keeping things going!

  • Our stage scrims from V Festival 2007 were recycled into laptop bags for our artists, and notebooks for our staff & crew

  • At the end of the Sydney event, compostable food scraps were collected separately and taken away at the end of the event for composting and worm farming within a home organic garden by a member of the Sustainability Support Crew

  • Waste cooking oils were also collected and taken away by a member Sustainable Support Crew who is a member of the Australian Biofuel Association

  • The VVIP lounge for Richard Branson ran on 100% renewable energy, Additionally the trees in the Virgin Mobile outdoor lounge area were lit up with solar power

  • We partnered up with Earth Hour to ensure that we helped spread their environmental message and to inspire people to make everyday changes that will help achieve Earth Hour's goal of reducing emissions by five per cent.

  • We purchased renewable energy carbon credits from Climate Friendly that will also assist with technology transfer to the developing world

  • Ticketmaster, our ticketing partner for the tour, ensured that the ticketing exercise was also carbon neutral

  • Our head office was cleaned on a weekly basis by an eco friendly cleaner

  • 100% recycled paper was used for our office paper

  • Our artist itineraries were printed on recycled paper

Oh and don't forget to give yourself a massive hug for helping us divert over 85% of landfill, just by putting your rubbish in the correct bins at the event.
